Spiritual Life
The Nativity BVM school family works together to foster the development of each child’s spiritual life and faith formation through scripture, Christian values, daily prayer, monthly liturgy and outreach activities. In a world where Christian beliefs and values are routinely challenged, Nativity students and staff share a strong faith community where they are able to celebrate and live their faith. The goal of our program is to cultivate young Christians with a sense of religious values and attitudes that will guide their choices today and prepare them for the future.
Although Nativity BVM is a Catholic school, we embrace and honor the families of all faiths in our school community.
Each school day begins with Morning Prayer. The entire school gathers in the gymnasium to join in prayer. Over the school year, each student shares in the opportunity to lead the student body in Morning Prayer.
First Friday Mass, celebrated on the First Friday of each month, is for students, faculty, staff, parents and visitors. Each month students from a designated class assist at the liturgy by lectoring, presenting the gifts at offertory, leading in song, and altar serving. The remainder of the student body attends First Friday Mass with their Prayer Partners and as a school community.
Classroom Prayers – All faculty members are encouraged to begin and end each class with a prayer.
Sacramental Preparation – The sacrament of Reconciliation is received in 3rd grade, in preparation for First Holy Eucharist in the spring of that year. Confirmation is conferred in 6th grade. Students participate in retreats and prayer services throughout the year to obtain a deeper understanding of the Sacrament they are preparing to receive.
Rosary – During October and May, andat certain times throughout the school year, the student body joins in this special devotion to Mary.
Special Devotions – The May Procession with the crowning of Mary has become a special devotion for our school’s namesake. The student body also joins in the Stations of the Cross during Lent.
Altar serving – Any student who has received the Sacrament of the Eucharist is welcomed to join in the ministry of Altar Service. This ministry is one of the first ways young Catholics can minister to their Church.
